JesusIn today’s Gospel, Luke gives us his version of the Lord’s Prayer, slightly different in wording from Matthew’s version. It would seem that Jesus taught his disciples how to pray without giving them a precise formula. The central request is for the coming of God’s reign. Physical nourishment is necessary as people await the reign, and Luke suggests that it would be a long wait by adding the significant “each day.” One attitude is singled out: mutual forgiveness modeled on God’s own forgiveness. One quality of prayer is stressed: perseverance. Eventual success is assured, and in the process one stays in touch with God.

ST. CHARLES SCHOOL

Dear Friends in Christ:

Our students will return to school for the 98-99 session on August 31st which is just around the corner. As always, this year, I have received numerous requests for full or partial scholarships.

The Scholarship Fund is presently low so I appeal to your outstanding generosity. If you can help those who would not otherwise receive a Catholic Education, it would be deeply appreciated. Checks can be made payable to: St. Charles School Scholarship Fund. Tuition for one child is $1,820.00.

As I’ve said before, no amount of money is too large or too small. Can you help Sister B’s kids?

In Him Always,

Sister Benedict Kesock, O.S.B.

RCIA

RCIA

Are you interested in learning about the Catholic faith? The RCIA is a process through which individuals who may be interested in joining the Catholic church come together to learn about the faith. An Inquiry Group will begin meeting at St. Charles in early September. If you wish to have further information regarding the RCIA, contact Kathy Rafferty at 528-6734.

JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY

Attention all incoming freshmen, returning students, and transfer students to James Madison University. JMU’s Catholic Campus Ministry is having its Northern Virginia summer barbecue on Sunday, August 2nd, 2:00 PM at Occoquan Regional park, Group Picnic Area #2. Questions? Call Tom at 476-0462 or Patrick at 491-6466.

EWTN (Eternal World Television Network)

Update: EWTN on Cable TV Arlington. Cable TV Arlington has received numerous phone calls requesting that EWTN be assigned one of their new channels. In response, Cable TV Arlington will send out a survey of new possible channels including EWTN to their customers with their August billing. EWTN, the Eternal World Television Network, airs Catholic programs 24 hours a day (including the Daily Mass and Rosary), and would be a great blessing for ALL, but especially for our homebound parishioners. If you get Cable TV in Arlington, please “keep an eye out” for this survey and cast your vote for EWTN. Thank you!
